Running to support “a different kind of healing”

Well, I WAS going to run 12 Ragnar relays in 2020 to get the Immortal Medal. However, after running just one race in Arizona, COVID happened and a bunch of my races were cancelled for the year. I plan to regroup and try again in 2021, assuming that it will be safe to do so.

In the meantime, I will still be getting up to various running shenanigans to raise money and awareness for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. For example, I plan to run the postponed Boston Marathon in September as a charity runner for Camp. I have closed out my Immortal fundraiser for now. However, you can still make a donation to my Boston Marathon fundraiser to help send seriously ill kids to Camp free of charge.

For posterity, the following is what I wrote before 2020 decided to throw a giant wrench into my plans.

When you explain to someone exactly what a Ragnar relay is, the general response is Why would anyone choose to do that?!? When you then tell them that you are planning to run 12 of them in one year, their reaction is to call you crazy.

Well then, call me crazy!

Ever since I learned about the existence of the Ragnar immortal medal — a slab the size of your chest that you receive for running 12+ relays in a year — I had the urge to make a run for it. What I didn’t have was the motivation to actually make it happen.

Then I met up with a crew of runners at work, The Fast and the Fouriers. Together we run relay races to raise funds for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, among other charities, and we volunteer each year to help get the camp ready for the summer.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is a community that celebrates the fun, friendship, and spirit of childhood, where every child can “raise a little hell”, no matter their illness.

With that kind of motivation, I didn’t see how I had a choice — So, I am running 12 Ragnar relays in 2020 to raise money and awareness for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

Please consider making a donation to help send seriously ill kids to camp, free of charge.

Race Plan

I plan to put together half-teams for as many races as I can and hopefully find other half-teams to join us for each race. Otherwise, I plan to farm myself out… Need a runner?
