Race Plan
I had a plan. I spent a lot of time and effort making said plan. It was bold and ambitious with all sorts of fun shenanigans in store for the year. However, 2020 decided to throw me a huge curve ball and destroy all of my beautiful hopes and dreams for the year.
But just because I can’t get an Immortal Medal this year doesn’t mean I can’t still run to support Camp. As of right now, these are my 2020 plans:
I was going to run the Boston Marathon in April. When the race was postponed, I still ran my own marathon around the neighborhood. It was the only way to squeeze in my first marathon before my 40th birthday.
Camp set up Newman’s Virtual Adventure as a fundraiser. I am running 120+ miles between May 11th and June 27th. You can make a donation to this fundraiser here.
As part of my virtual adventure, and as a kick-off to my Boston Marathon training, I decided that it would be a good idea to run a day long marathon like Beau Miles did. I am literally in the middle of doing this marathon as I type these words.
I will run the postponed Boston Marathon in September. You can donate to my marathon fundraiser here.
Below is what Past-Me said about his glorious plans……
I currently have 17 races on my radar for next year — Twelve in the current plan plus a few potential back-up/alternate races. My thoughts regarding race selection are as follows:
My plan includes only road and trail races.
Since I live in New England, I will do as many of the Northeast races as I can to save on time and money.
I’m not a big trail runner, so I am limiting my trail races to just those in the Northeast.
I tried to get a decent spread throughout the year, though that didn’t always work out (I have three races in May!!)
For some races, I am fielding half-team and and joining another half-team. For other races, I am farming myself out as a solo runner and bringing a friend along when possible. I am also fielding full teams for several races.
I will be building my teams from runners in my work running group, my running club, and some random friends/acquaintances. I will also potentially include runners who have previously run races for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

As my training and racing progress, I will try to keep an up-to-date blog of my adventures. I will also try out this whole Instagram thing the kids are using these days.
